May Mood Board: Tomie

If beauty could kill… she’d probably look like Tomie.

This month’s mood board is inspired by one of Junji Ito’s most iconic and chilling creations: Tomie. Equal parts beautiful and terrifying, she’s the kind of girl who drives people to obsession and destruction. But no matter how many times they try to get rid of her, Tomie always comes back. She’s not just a character, she’s a whole mood.

May felt like the perfect time to channel her energy. Spring is blooming, the air is warm, and everything feels just a little too perfect. What better time to embrace soft horror wrapped in glam aesthetics?

The Vibe

This mood board blends eerie elegance with dark romance. Think:

  • Glossy red lips

  • Shattered mirrors and moody pink lighting

  • Soft blush tones that slowly turn crimson

  • Beauty that’s haunting, and horror that’s beautiful

It’s femme fatale meets final girl; if the final girl was also the villain.

Color Palette

I wanted this board to feel both delicate and disturbing. Here’s the hex-coded breakdown:

  • Blood Red – #7A0E12

  • Blush Pink – #F4C5C2

  • Porcelain White – #FFF8F2

  • Charcoal Black – #0C0C0C

  • Mirror Silver – #C0C0C0

  • Crimson Lipstick – #B71C1C

Why Tomie?

Because some months aren’t soft pastel Pinterest-core; they’re sharp, seductive, and just a little unhinged. Tomie’s story plays with themes of identity, beauty, obsession, and mortality, and it’s the kind of horror that lingers long after the last page.

This board isn’t just for horror fans, it’s for anyone who’s ever been underestimated, told to smile more, or felt a little too powerful for the room.

Your Turn

If Tomie were your muse this month, what would your board look like? Would it be blood red roses or a bathroom mirror covered in cracks?
