5 Lazy Plant Care Tips That Actually Work (From a Plant Parent Who Forgets to Water)

Not all of us were born with a green thumb, and some of us are neurodivergent, have 3 dogs, and a tendency to forget the entire existence of our plants for days. If that sounds like you, welcome. Here are five genuinely helpful, low-effort plant care tips I use to keep my leafy roommates alive (and occasionally thriving).

The Tips:

1. Bottom watering > guessing games

Just plop the pot in a bowl of water and let it soak up what it needs. No more wondering if you overdid it.

2. Use your phone for watering reminders

Set a repeating alarm or calendar event for plant check-ins; bonus points if you name it something like “hydrate the drama queens.”

3. Group plants together for humidity

Put your babies in little clusters! Not only does it look cute, but they’ll share moisture like it’s a plant sleepover.

4. Keep a “plant ICU” basket

Have a sad, half-dead plant? Keep a recovery basket somewhere with better light and easy access. It’s basically a plant spa day.

5. Rotate your plants when you water

Every time you water, give them a little spin. It prevents lopsided growth and helps them soak up light evenly.

Do you have your own lazy but effective plant hacks? Share them in the comments. I’m always looking for ways to keep things alive with less effort.
